Golf Holidays
Our gites are a super base for all those golf enthusiasts who wish to visit a number of different courses without having to travel extensively. It is possible to visit at least 10 different courses within an easy drive from Domfront. Normandy offers golf for all standards at 36 different courses and is becoming a more and more popular golf destination and is now very accessible due to the motorway and ferry/tunnel links.
Normandy has preserved the charm of its coast and countryside whilst remaining faithful to its traditional and rich historical past. It is a great destination for holiday golf, and is where one can combine golf with touring, swimming, sailing, horse riding or cultural visits to local abbeys, cathedrals/chateaus which will be certain to satisfy almost any art lover. With a huge coastal region going from the monastery island of Mount Saint Michel to the port and resort town of Dieppe, one has a choice of very varied and unusual places to visit in between a day of golf. Some of our closest courses are:
Clecy, which is built on an extremely undulating, wooded and pastured, 100-acre property- its fairways, intertwine with nature over 6 kms commanding a superb panorama of the region. Early birds should not be afraid of the jumping hares or put off by the occasional deer at Clecy Golf Club. Two courses wind back to the enchanting manor clubhouse where the welcome is both warm and friendly. The course was designed by Bill Baker and is an excellent test for the technical golfer with its undulating fairways. Facilities:- Practice Green, Club House, Pro Shop, Buggies and Trolleys.
Belleme, the architect Eric Vialatel integrats the course in the middle of a vast natural setting made up of wide spaces, broken by a matured forest and designed with four natural water hazards. At the heart of the Perche countryside, this course rises above a landscape of hills and forests. All the 18 holes are not difficult but offers all ingredients to really appreciate them. The signature hole is the superb 16th with it's green placed on an island. The greens are large and there are not many bunkers on this course. The par 5's are not difficult and don't exceed 480m. Belleme is accessible to all levels of players and for non-golfers there is a horse riding centre, tennis courts and swimming pool. Belleme forest, classified by UNESCO for it's exceptional oak and beech trees is also a nice place to go out for a walk. Facilities:-Practice Green, Club House, Pro Shop, Driving Range, Practice bunkers and Tennis courts.
Caen, just a few miles outside the centre of Caen this 27 hole course benefits from wooded valleys and open fairways. The course lies only 5 kilometres away from the Centre of Caen, and is the same distance from the beaches of the Cote de Nacre "Mother of Pearl Coast". The course has 27 holes and lies in an area of open spaces and wooded valleys covering 93 hectares. Caen is a technical course to challenge even the best of golfers, with its wooded area's and valleys. Facilities:-Bar, Restaurant and Pro Shop. www.formule-golf.com
Granville is a links course par excellence, one of the best in France! Its greens drain naturally thus the course has excellent playing conditions all year round. Under the holiday sun it's an enchanting place to be. If you are not playing well just enjoy the scenery and the atmosphere at Granville. Nine other holes, more difficult than the first 18, are tucked behind the dunes also deserve a visit. Facilities: -Practise Green, Club House, Pro Shop, Driving Range and Practise bunkers. www.golfdegranville.com
Coutainville’s 18-hole course is located at the heart of this seaside resort and was founded in 1925. Coutainville is a course where the winds of west and the influence of the tide contribute to enrich the feeling of playing in a natural environment.
Garcelles is a par 70, 5716 metres course. Created in 1989, it opened its excellent 18 holes in 2001, with nine new holes designed by Yves Bureau, six holes were built through the woods giving the course a new look. On the front nine the fairways are wide and long but the vegetation gives it a real relief. The variety enables you to avoid monotony and to alternate power & technique, but after that one should then put the driver away and keep with the irons and the putter. The end of the course is beautiful with big trees and splendid views. Players of all levels are welcome at Garcelles. The course is neither physical nor tiring. A lot of golfers start at Garcelles with its superb practice range and its compact six holes. Facilities - Pro Shop, covered riving range, pitch and putt facility, 6 hole compact course, practice bunker and putting greens. Snack area and indoor tennis courts. www.golddegarcelles.com
